Work & Career
Working and having a career is about being useful and offering our talents and strengths to others. It's important, however, that we're clear about what our natural and learned abilities are.
“A key element in most people’s well being is work. [losing a job] can be similar to a marriage break up---you cease to be needed.” -Sam Young
We are biologically set up to be useful. In our ancestors’ societies, those who did not serve their society were less likely to be protected by the group, and eventually did not survive. Therefore, the need to be of use has been passed down through our genes. When we deny this need we can quickly find ourselves in a rut.
Does your job fulfill you?
Ask yourself these questions...
- Do you believe the world benefits from your service?
- Do you think you're good at what you do?
- Do you feel appreciated for your efforts?
- Does your job challenge you and encourage you to grow?
